The Polish Hostage

with 2 comments

Hondo: … We have a Polish hostage.
Deke: So what if he’s Polish?
Hondo: No, no. Means he’s one of those: “Anyone comes in, I’ll blow my head off” type of guys.

SWAT (2003)

Over a The Smallest Minority, Kevin has a post up about two letters to the President– one by a 94 year old Navy vet, and the other by the former VP of Procter & Gamble.  The title of the post comes from a quote out of the Navy vet’s letter: “I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.”

Indeed, Obama seems to be a Polish hostage– if we attempt to keep him from hurting others (i.e., pass another of his legislative abominations), he’ll hurt himself (attack others and basically do everything he can to drive down his approval rating).  Mr. Pritchett (the former P&G VP) said it best:

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.  You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.  You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.  You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.  You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.  Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Just like an actual barricaded “Polish hostage,” Obama has his share of standers-by… you know, the ones who always get interviewed for the 10 o’clock news?  “Mr. Ripper was a real quiet guy… he had some wild parties– you know, women, screaming, chainsaws, the works… but he was a friendly neighbor, always had chats with my wife and daughter.  I don’t know why the SWAT team went after him…”

And, like the guys down the block– who got freaked out by Mr. Ripper– the people most freaked out by Obama’s moves tend to be those outside the country:

What have you done? You have bought into a fraudulent narrative. You have made a Faustian bargain with a suave Mephistophelian who offers hope and change but delivers instead inevitable suffering and a violated people. As in all such compacts, the price for a brief state of euphoria is subsequent prolonged distress. You have given carte blanche to a man with a personal dossier blacked out in many places like a letter from the front, so as not, apparently, to divulge sensitive information. You have raised among you a man whose friends and influences would surely have precluded him from meriting your confidence had you paid attention to plain facts rather than to quasi-mystical incantations. You have anointed a man with a sinister agenda. You have voted for your historical nemesis who with his every move and decision renders you increasingly insecure in a violent and unforgiving world.

From 48 to 52– when you decide to take responsibility, we’ll be here.

Your rail is on its way…

without comments

Trying to shore up his wavering support, Mr. Stupak recently defended his vote to the Catholic News Agency, saying the legislation would have passed anyway because Speaker Nancy Pelosi “always carries a number of votes in her pocket.”

So, lemme get this right… you and your clique sell your votes for a grand total of about 3.5 billion dollars, get caught, and your defense is “hey, it would have happened anyway?”  Really?  You did think about how that sounds to your constituents before you said it, right?  Or were you more “is you is or is you ain’t my constituency?”

Right.  Anybody have numbers on the sales of roofing tar and landscaping timbers?

Come November, that number goes up…

… by at least one.

Florida’s unemployment now 12.2%.  Hmm, lemme think… I know my Governor did something to try and avert this…

Yeah.  Enjoy your “funemployment,” suntan boy.

My take on something

Anna Nicole Smith’s estate denied in their suit to get a portion of the estate of her late husband.

Now, I could go on about how the fight for the heiress to the fortune kid was obscene, about how both parties to the original suit are dead, about how a stripper marrying a 90 year old is… well, kinda eww inducing… but let me just state my position with song:

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

without comments

Who shall guard the guardians?  An old question… who will oversee those we set in positions of power?  If we have to watch the watchers constantly, it would be better to simply do the watching ourselves.

First video is courtesy of Dr. Lott.  Second is from the Glenn Beck program.

Keep stoking the fire, Congress.  As it stands, you’ll be out of a job after your next election– keep it up, and your name will be Mudd:

And Matheson.  If your vote changes just because your brother just happened to get a federal judgeship… (convenient timing, that)  Utah won’t just kick you out of office. Your name will become a swear word. You’ll be remembered forever as a sellout who betrayed the people of rural Utah who were dumb enough to think that just because you were a democrat, you wouldn’t totally suck.  I hope you’re cool with that.  – Larry Correia

Jennifer put it even more simply:

Remember, Remember

Health Care in November

Vote Buying, Treason, and Plot

I know of no reason the Slaughter House Treason

Should ever be forgot

Best counter I’ve seen so far is here.  Keep watch, friends– and pray.

A Reliability Gap

The Cartoon Network is beating CNN and MSNBC in primetime ratings.  Not surprising… CN is closer to reality, and more entertaining to boot.

Message to the MSM

“Yebededidiyebbadabb….That’s all Folks!”

Heh.  I’ve been waiting for Robert Gibbs to say that since the first time I saw him.

Knowledge is Power

without comments

Via Breda, a producer for a radio law show is learning about guns.  Nice article, and has a very positive tone to it.  I also love the fact that the producer wants to face her fear: “I don’t have a direct relationship with guns, and I think that’s one of the reasons I’m afraid of them. And it’s one of the reasons I want to learn more about it.”

If only more people were like her.  But I do have to highlight one quote and respond to it: “She said she’s not necessarily scared of using guns, just scared of the power they have and how she would react to them.”

1) The converse of power is responsibility.  Hence the four rules and the laws governing concealed carry.  You’ve been given power, and you have to accept the resposibility that goes with it.

2) Everybody reacts to guns.  Physically, even expert shooters blink and twitch during shooting.  Emotionally, we all respond.  Gun control advocates respond with anger and fear, and those inside the gun community react with more positive emotions.  Yes, they’re machines, but who doesn’t ooh and aah over a ’65 Mustang, or a fully restored P-47… or a pre-war Hi-Power?

The divide

without comments

Political tags – such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth – are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.  – Robert A. Heinlein

How can you tell which is which?  Usually from the fact that the totalitarian side is violent, while the liberty-minded side… isn’t.  That said, let’s play a little recognition game– violent or not violent?

Give up?  Okay, it’s a trick question– only the last one is non-violent.  I guess all the homicidal rage from us gun nuts is rubbing off on normal people now… or something.

Over 14 Million Armed

with 2 comments

Assuming one gun each.  Also assuming each NICS check passed , each check was for only one gun, and discounting all private transfers in states that allow their residents to be adults (or as I call them, Free America).  I would assume that 99+% of these checks resulted in a gun sale, due to the fact that most people with felony records don’t go to gun stores to buy guns.

The article also states that if each NICS check resulted in one sale, and each owner purchased 1,000 rounds of ammo, that would mean 14 billion rounds of ammo sold in 2009.  That’s discounting existing gun owners who didn’t buy new guns in 2009.  Kinda puts the ammo shortage into perspective, doesn’t it?

Now, for some fun with the numbers.  Assume that each NICS check resulted in one gun sale, each new gun owner bought 1,000 rounds of ammo, and that the average overall length of the cartridges used was 1 1/2″.  This means that if you were to place the ammo bullet to primer, the length would be… (works calculator) that can’t be right… (does calculations again) sweet mother of pearl…

331, 439.39 miles.  That’s equivalent to the distance to Luna at perigee and halfway back.  No wonder I can’t find .380 ammo…
