An Axe holster. I’ve seen some holsters made for around the ankle of a boot or on the belt, but never a back holster before.
Note: the ankle holster type cants the axe forward and out a bit, so the handle is forward of the knee. Just reach down, grip, pull, and the axe is in your hand, ready to go.

It also reminds me of one of Michael Bane’s quips about pistol bayonets. The one time I’ve seen one of these, it was lying on the counter at my favorite local gun store , and I noticed it as I was paying for the LCP. I’m standing in a room with enough Class 3 weapons to arm a small army, not to mention he has a tactical shotgun selection that would make a SWAT trooper jealous, and the man has… a pistol bayonet. My bewildered expression drew a chuckle and a comment… “but it’s cute…”
This is the one time a grown man used the word “cute” and I found it appropriate.
