A Dixie Carpetbagger

If you're offended, just know that I meant every bit of it.

About Me:

Twenty-something college student. Christian, southerner, conservative. A Gun owner. Former engineer, former system administrator, former librarian. History buff and amateur food critic (with the paunch to prove it.)

Why the Name?

In American history, a carpetbagger was a Reconstruction era Northern Republican who came into the former Confederacy to register blacks to vote, and help integration. After the Reconstruction came to a screeching halt, history was (essentially) re-written so that “carpetbaggers” and “scalawags” were disruptive agents sent by the Yankees Northerners to disrupt Southern governments.

I chose the name because today, a conservative (especially a Southern libertarian-leaning conservative,) has to deal with labels such as “racist,” “obstructionist,” and “Confederate” when they try to get their point across. Yes, I’ve been called all those. No, I don’t fly a Confederate flag (and if I did, I’d fly the proper one, not the Second Naval Ensign,) but I do fly a Gadsen flag often, and a Bonnie Blue flag every now and then.
