Eggs will no longer be sold by quantity in the EU– they’ll be sold by weight.  An official was quoted as saying “[t]his proposal would disallow selling by numbers. Retailers would not be allowed to put ‘Six eggs’ on the front of the box. If it was a bag of rolls, it would say ’500g’ instead of six rolls.”  So… the box will be square?  No bumps for the eggs to sit in?  Because otherwise, you’ll be able to tell from the package how many eggs are inside the container.

To be fair, within the arbitrary “large”, “extra large”, and whatever the hell other sizing schemes there are today, the weights of 6 and 12 eggs should not vary that much, so the numbers should be figurable after a few months of dealing with it.

That said, it is still bleeding retarded.

This is what happens when you let the inmates run the asylum.

Here’s the main point (from the link):

“Until now, Britain has been exempt from EU regulations that forbid the selling of goods by number.”

Just think: I go into a bakery and say, “May I have 1235 g of donuts, please?” (Insert the appropriate local idiom for “doughnut”.)

“Forbid the seling of goods by number”?? Utter madness.

“The rules will not allow both the weight and the quantity to be displayed.”

That’s not madness – that’s pure, unleavened evil.
