A Dixie Carpetbagger

Point, Counter-point

without comments

Over at Opposing Views, the VPC has an article posted.  In includes these wonderful little tidbits of wisdom:

From 1972 to 2006, the percentage of American households that reported having any guns in the home dropped nearly 20 percentage points: from a high of 54 percent in 1977 to 34.5 percent in 2006.

During the period 1980 to 2006, the percentage of Americans who reported personally owning a gun dropped more than nine percentage points: from a high of 30.7 percent in 1985 to a low of 21.6 percent in 2006.

The reason is that the primary firearms market of white males is aging and dying off — and they aren’t being replaced by a new generation of shooters.

Or, people could, oh I don’t know, not be admitting they have guns.  As far as the whole “white males … dying off” bit… I’m 23, and most of the gunnies I know are 40 or younger.  In addition, many of my female friends are into the gun culture, and even some of my skin-color-other-than-peach friends are, too.

Now, for the response, by none other than Sebastian:

Without allies in the traditional media, able to parrot unchallenged the lies and distortions of radical gun ban advocacy groups, it’s become increasingly more difficult for them to maintain credibility with the public. Social media, blogs, and forums are allowing the truth to be told, and the gig is up. More and more Americans are understanding that the right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by our Constitution is an important aspect of our freedoms and liberties. No wonder when it comes to facts and figures, the emperors of the gun ban movement are proving to indeed have no clothes.

One observation emphasizes Sebastian’s point: every comment on the VPC article is negative.  One even points out that the author of the article is a FFL dealer (in DC, no less), and the best way for him to make money would to start doing FFL transfers for DC residents.  Now that would be funny.
