Kukri is a pretty good tool, kind of amazing the leverage that shape gives in a cut. Haven't used the Woodman's Pal, but it ought to work quite well.

I stopped arguing about blade shapes a long time ago; what works for you, works.

The trick is to sharpen it in three sections, not two, like everybody tries to; main portion on the blade, the angle, and then the rake leading to the point. One reason I love this little folder is that it is a single bevel edge, so I only have to sharpen one side.

A kukri is good for inflicting nasty wounds. For working with woody plants and digging, one NEEDS a Woodman's Pal, first designed and used by the US Army. http://www.woodmanspal.com/ Made in the USA by people with names like Smith, Johnson and Lopez. Accept no substitutes.
